NFL Provides Merciful End to the Pro Bowl

The NFL had a major Pro Bowl problem on its hands for years. The once-competitive game became a joke and the league made the switch to the recent “Pro Bowl Games.” This was perfect if you wanted to see your favorite NFL players play dodgeball and run an obstacle course.

The Pro Bowl unfortunately became an embarrassing event for the NFL. The league made a decision this week to pull the plug once and for all.

NFL Bids Farewell to the Pro Bowl

The event itself fell into obscurity as star players refused to show up in recent years. ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared the news of the event being no more.

The decline in popularity led to countless alternates being named every year. Last year’s AFC quarterbacks in the Pro Bowl Games featured both Joe Flacco and Shedeur Sanders. Yes, Sanders already has a Pro Bowl honor to his name.

Getting rid of the event means the league can name its Pro Bowlers without the need for undeserving alternates. Thus, it becomes more of an honor than any sort of obligation. That seems to make sense after how it has completely fallen off in recent years.

The NFL is a violent sport and it did not make much sense for players to agree to play an exhibition game following the regular season. The league did its best to adapt, but they seem to have made the right decision here.

This means no more shocking Pro Bowl selections, such as how Tyler Huntley was a Pro Bowler in 2022 after starting a total of four games. His inclusion alone may have been enough evidence to put the event out of its misery.

The Pro Bowl used to mean something before it became a joke. Now, it fades away and it’s hard to imagine many fans being too upset about this.
