Bill Belichick was known as a ruthless leader during his time as head coach of the New England Patriots. He seems to have chilled out a bit now that he’s coaching at the University of North Carolina. He never would have had a 25-year-old girlfriend during his time in Foxborough.
Belichick was known for always looking for any advantage, sometimes reaching the point of (allegedly) cheating.
Ryan Paganetti is a former NFL coach who specialized in analytics and strategy. He is now a content creator and revealed a genius practice put in place by by Belichick during his time with the Patriots.
Bill Belichick Had the Perfect Plan to Confuse Opposing Kickers
Paganetti reviewed years of Patriots film and figured out a diabolical practice that was taking place.
Much has been made of the Patriots’ mysterious “Pink Stripes.” How about yellow ones?
I went through more than a decade of TV broadcasts and uncovered a diabolically clever piece of Patriots gamesmanship.

The analysis shows how the Patriots would put a reverse view of the field on the big screen when an opposing kicker was attempting a field goal. This put the goal post on the screen, just not in the right spot for the kick. As he notes in his tweet, even the orange flags on top of the goal posts were reversed on the big screen, likely confusing kickers for years.
This is something that would be easy to miss. Yet opposing kickers surely knew about this practice and had to overcome it when playing against Belichick’s Patriots.
Belichick was accused of spying on opposing teams, Tom Brady was suspended for allegedly deflating footballs, and apparently even the people running the video board were in on the schemes. This was truly an organization-wide effort to get every single possible advantage in a game.
NFL fans will now look to see if other teams pull off such a move in 2026. However, the ruse may be up if this story ends up getting a lot of traction. Leave it to the great Bill Belichick to think outside the box in order to get into the heads of opposing kickers.
