The San Francisco 49ers apparently had an individual on the team they didn’t even know about. But plenty of women did.
A crazy story emerged this week of a man posing as a 49ers player all with the purpose of defrauding women on dating apps. The details are almost hard to believe.
Man Poses as 49ers Player in Massive Fraud Scheme
A viral tweet from @49ersSportsTalk summed up the bizarre situation.
🚨 In Case You Missed This Story, Just Know THIS IS INSANE.
Feds say a 35-year-old man FAKED BEING A #49ers PLAYER and allegedly scammed 26 women out of more than $1.3 MILLION through romance & investment schemes.

A report on the scheme notes two men being involved. Daejon Love was the mastermind and fake 49ers player, while Taylor Jamie Chan was the apprentice. And what was the scheme? Well, Love crafted fake Internet personas, including one as a hopeful 49ers player. He met women on dating apps and the pair defrauded 26 women out of $1.3 million.
They did so by pitching fraudulent investment opportunities to the women and reportedly ghosting them if they became suspicious. There are even Instagram videos to legitimize the scheme. Unfortunately, the videos seem rather easy to debunk as clearly ridiculous.

This is shocking and once again shows the dangers and pitfalls of dating apps. However, it’s always a good lesson to never send money to people you meet online. A quick Google search would have likely disproved this false 49ers persona.
It seems people will go to great lengths to steal from others and this is quite the 21st century scheme. It involves social media, deception, and a group of victims who unfortunately may never want to date ever again. Or, at the very least, they will want to meet in person and Google NFL rosters before sending over any real money.
